Mojave River recap Oct. 16, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Hesperia, who took down 475th ranked Hesperia, 44-10. Justin Connors threw for 90 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 57 yards in the win.
Serrano extended the longest winning streak in Mojave River this week by beating Oak Hills, 41-16. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
Stephan Sanford was the best wideout in the league this week as Sultana fell to Silverado. Sanford tallied five receptions for 95 yards. Raul Perez helped Sultana's passing attack out by catching three balls for 25 yards.
Salvador Garcia was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 34 carries, he ran for 172 yards as the Sultans fell to the Hawks. Teammate Gabe Hernandez added to the ground attack by rushing for 10 yards.
Daniel Epperson put up the best numbers through the air as Serrano defeated the Bulldogs. He finished with a total of 14 completions for 220 yards and four touchdowns. Epperson's favorite target this week was Cade Tropila, who caught six passes for 90 yards.
Austin Beltrame made the biggest impact on defense this week as Oak Hills lost to Ray Maholchic's team. The 6-foot-1 defensive lineman racked up one sack.
The Scorpions' Austin Williams and Christopher Crummel have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Mojave River in both passing and receiving yards. Williams has thrown for 1279 yards this season, while Crummel has 37 catches for 631 yards. Tyler Murphy from Apple Valley leads the league in rushing with 942 yards.
The Sun Devils' Murphy is a mere 58 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Sultana takes on the Diamondbacks. As it stands, Blake Robbins' team is in third, while Serrano is in first.
Apple Valley moved up to 422 from 553 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Frank Pulice's team climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Hesperia 44-10.
