The Farmington Knights will face off against the Hillsboro Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Farmington comes in on seven and Hillsboro on four.
On Tuesday, Farmington earned a 10-7 win over Park Hill.
Bryce Bloom looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three).
At the plate, Cooper Tripp was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Jackson McDowell, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Hillsboro took on Jefferson on Tuesday. The Hawks were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Blue Jays. The Hawks not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 25th.
Jackson Marks spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Aidan Roland was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Hillsboro: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Gunner Sutton was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Farmington pushed their record up to 9-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Hillsboro, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Farmington has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hillsboro struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Farmington couldn't quite get it done against Hillsboro when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-2. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
