Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, a fact the Newcastle Dogies proved on Saturday. They blew past Arvada 49-14 at home. Given Newcastle's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 30th in Wyoming, while Arvada is ranked 223rd in Colorado), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Newcastle to victory were Sydney Pederson and Delainey Dresen. Pederson scored 19 points along with 9 rebounds, while Dresen scored 11 points along with 6 steals and 5 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Pederson has scored at least 25% of Newcastle's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Adalyn Olson, who scored 5 points along with 7 rebounds.
The victory got Newcastle back to even at 2-2. As for Arvada, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newcastle's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Sundance at 5:30 p.m. on December 14th. Hopefully Sundance focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Saturday. As for Arvada, they will be playing in front of their home fans against DSST: College View at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
