The Gulf Buccaneers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They fell to Central 62-57. Gulf has struggled against Central recently, as their game on Monday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Gulf's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carlos Domenech, who scored 14 points. Another player making a difference was Aiden Holewski, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jeroen "jd" Watson, who scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and four blocks. Watson is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Braden Joyner, who scored 13 points along with five assists and five steals.
Gulf's loss dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Central, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 16-4.
Gulf will head out on the road to face off against Hudson at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hudson is out to stop a five-game streak of losses at home. As for Central, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Crystal River at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Crystal River will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 592nd, while Central is ranked 152nd).
