The Lowry Buckaroos will face off against the Spring Creek Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lowry is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.2 points per game this season.
Last Saturday, Lowry came up short against Fernley and fell 66-54. The Buckaroos haven't had much luck with the Vaqueros recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Jaden Jimenez, who went 5 of 12 en route to 15 points and eight rebounds. Byron Jimenez was another key player, putting up 11 points.
Even though they lost, Lowry smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Spring Creek came tearing into Saturday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 53-34 victory over the Hawks. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Hawks are ranked 65th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lowry better keep an eye on Tayden Francis. He was instrumental in Spring Creek's win, going 5 for 6 on his way to 17 points and six boards. Francis' afternoon made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Scott Bylund, who posted nine points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals.
Spring Creek has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points per game. As for Lowry, their loss dropped their record down to 6-11.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Lowry has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 33.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Spring Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.1 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Lowry came up short against Spring Creek when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 65-53. Will Lowry have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
