Softball Recap: Union Grove Christian Sets Scoring Season-High Against Salem Baptist Christian

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Union Grove Christian). Everything went their way against the Salem Baptist Christian Vikings on Tuesday as Union Grove Christian made off with a 17-1 win. The Patriots haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Morgan Donovant and Hannah Tapler were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Donovant pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Tapler tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed since back in March of 2024. At bat, Donovant got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI, while Tapler scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs Tapler has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isabella Lott, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alaina Reiner, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Union Grove Christian hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in three consecutive games.

Union Grove Christian's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Salem Baptist Christian, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Union Grove Christian will challenge Salisbury at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Salem Baptist Christian, they will square off against Phoenix Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
