The McCutcheon Mavericks will venture away from home to take on the Franklin Central Flashes at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. McCutcheon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
McCutcheon made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Brownsburg, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Mavericks fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 6-4 on Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Mavericks in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost six in a row.
McCutcheon saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mady Jones, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Franklin Central came up short against Southport on Thursday and fell 8-3.
Olivia Starr put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Mariah Brown made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Adalynn Foster, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
McCutcheon's record now sits at 6-5. As for Franklin Central, their record is now 9-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. McCutcheon hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Franklin Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
McCutcheon couldn't quite get it done against Franklin Central when the teams last played back in May of 2025 as they fell 12-7. Can the Mavericks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
