Video: Del Oro softball highlights
Golden Eagles have opened the 2020 season with three straight wins.
Del Oro (Loomis) opened its year with three straight victories in the Franklin PreSeason Tournament on Thursday and Friday. But rain came late into the evening and poured on Saturday to cancel the remaining games.
The Golden Eagles next game is on Tuesday in its Sierra Foothill League opener against the defending league and section champs,
Whitney (Rocklin). Senior
Katelyn Oldwin threw a complete game no hitter as D.O. won 10-0. Sophomores
Haylee Engelbrecht and
Jenna Birch had great days at the plate. Engelbrecht went 4-4 with three doubles and Birch added two hits, including a home run. The Eagles move up to No. 1 overall this week.
In other SFL action,
Rocklin went on the road to play
Folsom. This was Folsom’s second game of the season so it was hard to really tell what the Bulldogs would be made of this year. With
Emma Falen in the circle, Folsom is always in it. The sophomore gave up four hits and one run in seven innings.
Gracie Carpenter drove in the game-tying run in the bottom of the fourth. And in the seventh, junior
Allison Gallant's single was hit needed to beat the Thunder 2-1.
The beginning of the season, as expected, has seen a lot of movement in the rankings. Teams don’t always throw their ace, coaches are still working out lineups, and there are those out there still getting healthy. We try to take all of that into account. As teams continue to enter league play we know that’s when things get real.
