Softball Recap: Woodbridge Wins Going Away Against Delmarva Christian

Woodbridge lost to Delmarva Christian back in May of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. The Raiders put the hurt on the Royals with a sharp 17-7 win. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won seven contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Makayla Lessner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kalli Chelton was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caroline Scott, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Woodbridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Delmarva Christian only posted a batting average of .304.

Woodbridge pushed their record up to 10-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Delmarva Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Woodbridge will venture away from home to face off against Odyssey Charter at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Delmarva Christian, they will challenge Delmar at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
