The Chippewa Chipps will take on the Firestone Falcons at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
On Thursday, Chippewa came up short against Smithville and fell 4-1. The Chipps have struggled against the Smithies recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Emma Scritchfield spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits.
At the plate, Chippewa saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anna Bennett, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Firestone had just enough and edged out Lake Center Christian 10-9 on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Tiger: they've now won four in a row.
Jocelyn Loeffler was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 13 batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.8 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sylvie Stark, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Sophia Cooper was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Firestone kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Firestone's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Chippewa, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.
Chippewa came out on top in a nail-biter against Firestone when the teams last played back in May of 2025, sneaking past 14-12. Will the Chipps repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
