IA Southern - Sunrise recap Oct. 23, 2012
Moapa Valley extended the longest winning streak in IA Southern - Sunrise this week by beating Desert Pines, 49-20. This was the team's ninth consecutive win.
Moapa Valley took down the Jaguars 49-20 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Damon Heard and Sherman Nash gave Sunrise Mountain a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Heard threw for 45 yards and one touchdown, while Nash ran for 185 yards. Teammate Heard added to the ground attack by rushing for nine yards.
Michael Kelso was the best wideout in the league this week as Boulder City defeated Chaparral. Kelso tallied two receptions for 66 yards. Corbett Fleming helped Boulder City's passing attack out by catching two balls for 13 yards.
Jordan Calloway made the biggest impact on defense this week as Sunrise Mountain lost to Virgin Valley. The 5-foot-9 junior pulled down one interception.
Thanks to the talents of Josh Repp and Conner Mortensen Brent Lewis' team has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Repp leads the league in passing with 611 yards, while Mortensen has rushed for 1198 yards this season. Ky Edwards' team's A'keem Ross leads the league in receiving yards with 421 on 37 catches.
In 108 carries DJ Koopman has accumulated 960 yard this year.
The Pirates led the league in scoring this week after putting up 49 points on Desert Pines.
