The Ouachita Parish Lions will head out on the road to take on D'Arbonne Woods at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It was a proper cat-fight when Ouachita Parish challenged Ruston on Thursday. Ouachita Parish blew past Ruston 16-1. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by seven runs or more this season.
Alayjha Matthews made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Matthews was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.
In other batting news, Rheagan Montgomery was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 14 contests. Aja Williams was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one double.
Ouachita Parish was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .594. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .394 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, D'Arbonne Woods came tearing into Thursday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They had just enough and edged out the Tigers 6-4.
Aubrey Zachary spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Charley Alford was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Joley Bennett, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Ouachita Parish is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. D'Arbonne Woods' record now sits at 12-4.
Ouachita Parish couldn't quite get it done against D'Arbonne Woods when the teams last played back in March of 2024 as they fell 9-6. Can Ouachita Parish avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
