Basketball Recap: Lake Mary Prep Gets the Win

Lake Mary Prep waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They pulled ahead with a 60-59 photo finish over the Bridge to Independence Wildcats. The win almost wasn't to be: the Griffins were down 54-37 in the third quarter.

Lake Mary Prep's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jake Caporaso, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Julian Soto, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 13 points and seven rebounds.

Lake Mary Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Bridge to Independence lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Micah Becker, who posted seven points and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaydan Jeantinord, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 boards.

Lake Mary Prep's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.6 points per game. As for Bridge to Independence, with the loss, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lake Mary Prep will take on Orangewood Christian in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Orangewood Christian's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five contests. As for Bridge to Independence, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Forest Lake Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Bridge to Independence is facing Forest Lake Academy at the right time seeing as Forest Lake Academy is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
