Apollo is 1-6 against Bowling Green since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Eagles will challenge the Purples at 6:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
While Apollo's victory against Henderson County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles had just enough and edged out the Colonels 8-7 on Monday.
Jackson Carder was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ryleigh Logan, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Grayson Smith, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Apollo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Henderson County only managed five hits.
Meanwhile, Bowling Green faced Barren County in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Purples sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Trojans. That's two games straight that the Purples have won by just one run.
Harrison Yates was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run. Evan Schallert was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Apollo pushed their record up to 17-9 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Bowling Green, their record now sits at 20-10.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Apollo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. However, it's not like Bowling Green struggles in that department as they've averaged .320. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
