Canyon is a perfect 10-0 against Hereford since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Eagles will welcome the Whitefaces at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Canyon has ten straight victories, Hereford has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Canyon is returning to their home field after beating Pampa on theirs, despite the fact Pampa has dominated at home this season. The Eagles put the hurt on the Harvesters with a sharp 9-2 win on Tuesday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 matches by six runs or more this season.
Meanwhile, Hereford fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Dumas on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Demons by a score of 14-13. Whitefaces fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Demons since on Tuesday.
Tell Bryant was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off 11 hits (and not a single walk). The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero). He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He also snagged a stolen base, marking his first of the season.
In other batting news, Hereford got a massive performance out of Kayden Alonso, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Noah Zamora, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Canyon's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 25-3-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Hereford, their loss dropped their record down to 14-12-1.
Canyon came out on top in a nail-biter against Hereford in their previous matchup on April 1st, sneaking past 9-7. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Whitefaces have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
