Basketball Recap: Yuma Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Platte Valley came into Tuesday's contest looking for another win against Yuma, but Jade Lungwitz wouldn't allow it. The Yuma Outlaws took their matchup on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 55-19 win over the Platte Valley Broncos thanks in part to Lungwitz, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. She is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games.

Berkley Nighswonger was another key player, going 6 of 9 en route to 14 points along with five boards and four steals. Those 14 points gave her a new career-high.

Despite the loss, Platte Valley still got an impressive performance from Lauryn Uyemura, who posted six points in addition to six steals and five rebounds. Uyemura is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 27 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Koffler, who earned nine points.

With the victory, Yuma broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-5. As for Platte Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-4.

Yuma is taking a road trip to face off against Highland at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Highland's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Yuma has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road. Platte Valley has already played their next game, an 81-20 win against Frontier Academy on the 23rd.
