The Wautoma Hornets will square off against the Winneconne Wolves at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Wautoma is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Winneconne will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Wautoma extended their winning streak to three on Thursday. The Hornets came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against Adams-Friendship. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hornets have posted against the Green Devils since April 19, 2022.
Carson Rose spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brady Abitz, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Miller, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Winneconne earned a 7-3 victory over Weyauwega-Fremont on Saturday. The contest marked the Wolves' most dominant win of the season so far.
Broderick Stille was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Colson Kleinschmidt, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
The victory got Wautoma back to even at 3-3. As for Winneconne, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wautoma has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Winneconne struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Wautoma was able to grind out a solid victory over Winneconne in their previous meeting back in May of 2021, winning 7-4. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
