The Gridley Bulldogs are taking a road trip to square off against the Truckee Wolverines at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Truckee will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Gridley extended their winning streak to four on Wednesday. The Bulldogs put the hurt on Oroville with a sharp 13-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 12 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Reese Stevens made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Stevens was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Avery Mendenhall was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Charlee Sormano was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Gridley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 11 consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Truckee came into Wednesday's contest having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Sparks on Wednesday as they made off with a 19-9 victory. The Wolverines not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 21st (when they won 20-4).
The team relied heavily on Gwen Burns, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Jessie Borzello, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs.
Gridley's record now sits at 12-4. As for Truckee, their record is now 7-15.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Gridley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .504. However, it's not like Truckee struggles in that department as they've averaged .325. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Gridley's way against Truckee in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Gridley made off with a 21-2 win. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Wolverines have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
