The Highland Trojans will head out to challenge the Illiana Christian Vikings at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Highland will be strutting in after a win while Illiana Christian will be coming in after a defeat.
Highland had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Whiting on Saturday. The Trojans were the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over the Oilers. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Oilers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Alyssa Niemann made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Niemann was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Hailey Thomas was a standout: she went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Gracie Waldron, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.
Highland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Illiana Christian suffered their biggest loss since May 18, 2024 on Saturday. They lost 12-2 to Chesterton. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Illiana Christian saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sofia Dunnet, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double and one RBI. That double was Dunnet's first of the season.
Highland pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. As for Illiana Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Highland has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 14.1 hits per game. However, it's not like Illiana Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
