Even though the Battery Creek Dolphins have not done well against the Whale Branch Warriors recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Battery Creek slipped by Whale Branch 45-44. The victory was nothing new for Battery Creek as they're now sitting on three straight.
Alizjah Mathis continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 21 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The matchup was his seventh in a row with at least ten points. Que Williams was another key contributor, scoring six points along with four steals.
When it comes to explaining why Whale Branch lost, one person who can't be blamed is Bradford Thompson. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds. Thompson has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Kevin Jenkins, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Battery Creek's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2. As for Whale Branch, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.
Battery Creek will face off against Hampton County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hampton County has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 315 points over their last five contests. Whale Branch will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on New Hope Leadership Academy at 6:00 p.m. on December 26th. New Hope Leadership Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Whale Branch likes a good challenge.
