After a string of three wins, the Florence Christian Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell to Orangeburg Prep 52-46. While losing is never fun, Florence Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 141st, while Orangeburg Prep is ranked 14th).
Despite the defeat, Florence Christian saw an underclassman step up: Emerson Poston scored 14 points along with nine steals and six assists. Poston scored a full 30.4% of Florence Christian's points, the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Demi Greene was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five assists.
Even though they lost, Florence Christian were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Florence Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Orangeburg Prep, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Florence Christian will take on Marlboro Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Orangeburg Prep will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Wilson Hall at 6:15 p.m. on January 10th.
