Baseball Game Preview: Roseau Rams vs. Thief River Falls Prowlers

The Roseau Rams will head out on the road to challenge the Thief River Falls Prowlers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Roseau is headed into the contest having just posted their closest victory since May 28, 2024 on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Red Lake County Central, sneaking past 5-4.

Bo Paulson looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Roseau: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 1-5 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Austin Klint, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one triple. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Trey Mertens, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double.

Roseau always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Thief River Falls had just enough and edged out Warroad 3-2 on Monday.

Thief River Falls also got a great performance from Gannon Zutz as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Thief River Falls' win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Noah Gonzales, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Landon Wikert also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Thief River Falls' victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-5. As for Roseau, their record is now 3-6.

Roseau suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to Thief River Falls in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
