The Tucson High Magnet School Badgers will face off against the Sunnyside Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Sunnyside's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Thursday: Tucson High Magnet School hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Badgers never let Marana get on the board and left with an 8-0 win on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Badgers in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won six in a row.
Juan Hernandez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Hernandez was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aldo Teilon, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Tenochtli Nepan Ollin was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
Sunnyside not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 13th. They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over Rincon/University. With that win, the Blue Devils brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Like Tucson High Magnet School, Sunnyside also got a great game from a two-way player: ALFREDO ENCINAS. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. ENCINAS was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.
In other pitching news, EMRICK THOMPSON looked comfortable as he went 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, JORGE RUIZ was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Sunnyside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rincon/University only posted an OBP of .167.
Sunnyside is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Tucson High Magnet School, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
