Video: Anthony Williams ultimate highlightsSee the Kansas commit zoom past defenders.Anthony Williams of
Hahnville (Boutte, La.) is an anomaly on and off the football field.
The nation's No. 12 all-purpose back and
Kansas commit runs a blazing 4.27-second 40-yard dash and is one of the fastest prospects in the nation. The three-star
recruit is also one of our
Top 10 most underrated players in America.
That is all pretty incredible to fathom when you hear Williams' story of losing toes in a freak accident when he was 9 years old. Two of his toes were cut off when his
cousin accidentally ran over his right foot with a lawn mower,
according to Alex Schiffer of the Kansas City Star.
His athletic achievements stand out that much more because football success is predicated upon speed and change of direction abilities.
The senior posted 2,220 total yards and 35 touchdowns in directing Hahnville to the second round of the Louisiana Class 5A state playoffs last fall. Williams has incredibly averaged a touchdown every 4.3 times he’s touched the ball in high school.
“Once he gets to the second level, you’re changing the scoreboard,” Hahnville football coach Nick Saltaformaggio told the Kansas City Star.
Williams finished third in high jump at the state meet in May by clearing 6 feet, 6 inches. He also placed eighth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.91 seconds.
