The George Washington Patriots will square off against the Kennedy Commanders at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. George Washington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
George Washington took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They put the hurt on Skyview with a sharp 13-6 victory. The Patriots' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Henry Kuntner was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He also snagged a stolen base, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Joseph Wiederholt, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4.
George Washington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Kennedy suffered their closest loss since May 3, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of Wheat Ridge by a score of 9-7.
Marcelo Nevarez and Damian Ortiz stepped up to the plate in a big way. Nevarez scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3, while Ortiz scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Nevarez is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.
Kennedy dropped their record down to 1-2 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for George Washington, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Kennedy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: George Washington has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Kennedy, though, as they've been averaging 12.7 hits. Given George Washington's sizable advantage in that area, Kennedy will need to find a way to close that gap.
