Russell extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region 2 this week by beating Eufaula, 28-24. The victory was the ninth in a row for the Wildcats.
Valley took down Marbury 27-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. JOSHUA MEIGS threw for 157 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 66 yards in the win.
Lajarret Ford was the best wideout in the league this week as Russell defeated the Tigers. Ford racked up four receptions for 106 yards. Blake McClellan helped Russell's passing attack out by catching three balls for 41 yards.
Bryant Horn provided a threat through the air and on the ground as JEFF HINES's team topped Eufaula. He completed 15 passes for 209 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 49 yards.
Briquez Alvies was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 75 yards on 16 carries as the Wildcats beat Daniel Klages' team.
The Rams' MEIGS and HOUSTON BARNES have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 5A Region 2 in both passing and receiving yards. MEIGS has thrown for 1259 yards this season, while BARNES, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 28 catches for 440 yards. Alvies from Russell leads the league in rushing with 689 yards.
Russell County made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,559 from 7,765. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 20-0 victory over Booker T. Washington last week.
