The Del Sol Dragons will head out on the road to face off against the Foothill Falcons at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Del Sol has given up an average of 20.3 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Monday just wasn't the day for Del Sol's offense. They came up short against Pinecrest Academy Cadence on Monday, falling 15-0. Having soared to a lofty 32 runs in the game before, the Dragons' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, Foothill had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Skyhawks. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won 13 contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Isabella Higuera made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leah Henderson, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Jessica Cadena was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.
Foothill hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in 11 consecutive games.
Del Sol has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 1-13-1 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.1 runs over those games. As for Foothill, their record is now 14-7.
Del Sol suffered a grim 20-0 defeat to Foothill in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Dragons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
