The Lakewood Ranch Mustangs fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. Everything went their way against Bayshore on Wednesday as Lakewood Ranch made off with a 72-50 win. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 39-18.
Lakewood Ranch found their leader in underclassman David Young, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. Young is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Liam Scalzo, who scored 17 points.
Despite the loss, Bayshore still got an impressive performance from William Strawbridge, who scored 25 points along with three steals. Strawbridge hasn't dropped below 16 points for seven straight games. Keshawn Parhm was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five assists and three steals.
Lakewood Ranch's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-14. As for Bayshore, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-13.
Lakewood Ranch and the Rams will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Riverview Sarasota presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Mustangs in Florida (the Rams are ranked 157th, while the Mustangs are ranked 366th). As for Bayshore, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Seminoles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Southeast is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
