The Chillicothe Hornets entered their tilt with the Smithville Warriors with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Chillicothe walked away with a 64-56 victory over Smithville on Friday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
James Mathew was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 15 rebounds. He is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Jackson Trout, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds.
Chillicothe's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.7 points per game. As for Smithville, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-8.
Chillicothe will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Pius X at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Pius X will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Missouri Rankings (they are ranked 226th, while Chillicothe is ranked 90th). As for Smithville, they will head out on the road to face off against Truman at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Truman is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
