The Branford Buccaneers will head out to take on the Williston Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Branford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Branford came up short against Columbia and fell 14-10. The Buccaneers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Cloey Criggall was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing Four bases. while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Morgan Brennan was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Williston). They were the clear victor by a 16-8 margin over Winter Park on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Red Devils.
Emily Asencion made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base. She also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grace McDaniel, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four stolen bases, and four RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Luna Asencion, who scored four runs and stole Five bases. while going 2-for-5.
Williston hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Winter Park struck out 11 times.
Williston pushed their record up to 4-2 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 7.8 runs. As for Branford, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
Branford beat Williston 8-5 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Does Branford have another victory up their sleeve, or will Williston turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
