The Chickasaw Chieftains and the Robertsdale Golden Bears will round out the year against one another at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday at. Chickasaw has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 189 points over their last three contests.
Last Wednesday, Chickasaw blew past Fruitdale, posting a 71-34 win at home. Given Chickasaw's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while Fruitdale is ranked 425th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Chickasaw to victory, but perhaps none more so than JaVon Mose, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Those 13 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Marvin Brooks, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Robertsdale unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak last Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 65-38 loss at the hands of Bayside Academy.
Robertsdale's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Gabe Stevens, who scored 11 points, and Tanner Williams who scored eight points. The game was Stevens' third in a row with at least ten points.
Chickasaw pushed their record up to 10-3 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for Robertsdale, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-6.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Chickasaw have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 37 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Robertsdale, though, as they've been averaging only 25.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Chickasaw couldn't quite finish off Robertsdale in their previous matchup back in January of 2019 and fell 61-59. Can Chickasaw avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
