Highlands has gone a perfect 9-0 against Dayton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Bluebirds will host the Greendevils at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Highlands has 12 straight victories, Dayton has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Highlands had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Boone County on Tuesday. The Bluebirds' pitcher stepped up to hand the Rebels an 11-0 shutout. Considering the Bluebirds have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kaitlyn Dixon made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kate Class, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Cam Markus was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Highlands kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Dayton came up short against Newport Central Catholic on Wednesday and fell 15-10.
Ella Boyers and Emily Hall stepped up to the plate in a big way. Boyers went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles, while Hall went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Tayah Smith, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Highlands pushed their record up to 19-5-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games. As for Dayton, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-10.
Dayton's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Highlands has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Dayton, though, as they've been averaging only 1.5 strikeouts. Will Highlands keep running through batters, or will the Greendevils buck the trend?
Everything went Highlands' way against Dayton when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Highlands made off with a 12-5 win. Do the Bluebirds have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Greendevils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
