Penns Grove (Carneys Point, N.J.) beat Paulsboro (N.J.) 53-6 on the strength of a superb game by dual threat quarterback
Nick Elmer, who threw two touchdown passes while running for three more.
The Red Devils were up 12-0 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown pass by Elmer to
Rich Gray in the first quarter.
Penns Grove expanded its lead to 34 points entering the fourth quarter. PG scored six times in the third, including once on a Elmer touchdown pass to
Jabrail Murray.
Even though the Carneys Point school led by 34 points entering the fourth quarter, it poured the points on, scoring 13 in the fourth.
The Red Raiders' Zack Funk played well. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown. He has now scored nine touchdowns on the season.
Paulsboro's lone touchdown came on a 1-yard pass in the third quarter.
The Red Devils had given up an average of 2.6 points prior to the contest. The six points that PHS ended with were well below its average of 26.1 coming into the game. The Red Raiders came in allowing just 11.9 points per game this season. Paulsboro struggled against Penns Grove, which came in averaging 53.8 points per game.
PG also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 36-8.
