Evergreen dropped down to 5-2 on Thursday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They took a 35-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Green Mountain Rams. The Cougars lost against the Rams in their previous head to head back in October of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 36-0 score last time.
Evergreen's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Tom Van Den Bos, who threw for 228 yards and two TDs, and Gianni Volpe, who gained 151 total yards. Karrik Boyle did his part by putting the 'special' in special teams, booting in three field goals and three extra points.
Special teams also played a big role in the game for Evergreen, adding 12 points to the final score. All came from Boyle: he went 3-for-3 kicking field goals for nine points, and 3-for-3 again kicking extra points for an additional three.
As for Green Mountain, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 14.3 points on average over those games.
Drew Contreras continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 146 yards and three scores on only 15 carries. Those three rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ethyan Polston, who picked up 115 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
