Academy of the New Church put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Swenson Arts & Tech Lion a 10-0 shutout. That's more bragging rights for the Lions, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Maddie Conlon and Jamie Madara were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Conlon struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Madara pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Conlon has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. At bat, Conlon went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Madara got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two triples, two runs, and one RBI. Those two triples gave Madara a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isabella Furness, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Schriver, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Academy of the New Church's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Swenson Arts & Tech, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Academy of the New Church will head out to face off against Academy-Notre Dame De Namur at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Swenson Arts & Tech, they will venture away from home to take on Science Leadership Academy at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
