After a string of seven wins, the Millbrook Pioneers's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 77-32 loss at the hands of Handley. While losing is never fun, Millbrook can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while Handley is ranked 29th).
Several Pioneers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Valentina Burrill, who scored ten points along with six rebounds. Jane Moreland was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Millbrook's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-7. As for Handley, they pushed their record up to 18-0 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Brentsville District the next time they take the court. Handley will head out to face Brentsville District at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Millbrook will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
