The Chesterton Trojans are taking a road trip to challenge the New Prairie Cougars at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Chesterton will aim to continue their seven-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
On Wednesday, Chesterton made easy work of Merrillville and carried off a 17-1 win. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by eight runs or more this season.

Ava Vagner made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those hits marked the first that she has got this season.
In other batting news, Chesterton let Kylee Fieffer * and Claire Demeter run wild. Fieffer * went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Demeter got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs Demeter has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Maddie Nichols, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when New Prairie took on Elkhart on Thursday. The Cougars walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Lions. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won six in a row.
Ava Geyer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Geyer was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and two runs.
Geyer wasn't the only one making solid contact as eight players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kiera Strakowksi, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Addi Luther was another, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
New Prairie hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive games.
New Prairie pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Chesterton, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
Chesterton couldn't quite get it done against New Prairie in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 11-6. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
