The Wewahitchka Gators will face off against the Vernon Yellowjackets at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Wewahitchka knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Vernon likes a good challenge.
Wewahitchka's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Graceville as Wewahitchka made off with a 21-0 win. The Gators have beaten the Tigers the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Tigers has come to flipping the script.
Walker Bailey was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Rhemy Patrick was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Landon Whitten was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Wewahitchka was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .393 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Vernon fell victim to Cottondale and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Hornets, falling 16-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Yellowjackets in their meetings with the Hornets: they've now lost nine in a row.
Wewahitchka's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Vernon, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.
Vernon's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Wewahitchka hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .380. It's a different story for Vernon, though, as they've only averaged .213. Will they be able to contain Wewahitchka's hitters?
Wewahitchka took their win against Vernon when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-7. Will Wewahitchka repeat their success, or does Vernon have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
