Cimarron-Memorial has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Del Sol Dragons at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Cimarron-Memorial knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully the Dragons likes a good challenge.
Last Monday, it was close, but Cimarron-Memorial sidestepped the Mustangs for a 55-52 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Cimarron-Memorial has posted against the Mustangs since January 11, 2018.
Christian Cardona and Gerald Patterson were among the main playmakers for Cimarron-Memorial as the former scored 21 points and the latter scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Cardona hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games. Daniel Brown was another key contributor, scoring four points.
Meanwhile, Del Sol's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight defeat. Their tough 53-27 defeat to Chaparral might stick with them for a while. Del Sol has struggled against the Cowboys recently, as their match on Monday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Joshua Landaverde, who scored nine points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jaeden Alexander, who scored four points along with two steals.
Del Sol struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Chaparral racked up 12 assists.
Cimarron-Memorial is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. As for Del Sol, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Cimarron-Memorial have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Del Sol struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Cimarron-Memorial against the Dragons in their previous matchup back in January as the team secured a 69-33 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cimarron-Memorial since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
