Baseball Game Preview: Gila Bend Gila Monsters vs. A+ Charter School Maricopa

Gila Bend is 0-3 against A+ Charter School since April of 2024 but things could change on Saturday. The Gila Monsters will challenge the Maricopa at 4:00 p.m. Gila Bend is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.4 runs per game this season.

Gila Bend is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They came out on top against Holy Family Academy by a score of 10-6. That's two games straight that the Gila Monsters have won by exactly four runs.

Crash Davis made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Davis was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Gila Bend's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 2-5 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Nolan Davis was incredible, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Gila Bend is undefeated when Davis posts two or more runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Rogellio Villegas was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Gila Bend kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

A+ Charter School played against Tohono O'Odham on Thursday and won via forfeit.

The victory (which was A+ Charter School's seventh in a row) raised their record to 12-1-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Gila Bend, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-5.

Gila Bend couldn't quite finish off A+ Charter School in their previous matchup last Tuesday and fell 7-5. Can the Gila Monsters avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
