Baseball Recap: Evansville Mater Dei Takes Down Providence in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Evansville Mater Dei had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over the Providence Pioneers. Considering the Wildcats have won 13 contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Evansville Mater Dei has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Providence, with the defeat, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 17-7.

Looking ahead, Evansville Mater Dei will challenge Boone Grove at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Wolves will roll in looking for their 17th straight win, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight. Providence does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
