Baseball Recap: Derby Wins Going Away Against Crosby

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Kennedy, Derby was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over the Crosby Bulldogs. The Red Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Isaac McNeill made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Vincent Nuzzo was a standout: he went 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Derby: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-13 otherwise. Brooklyn Fernandez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

With the victory, Derby broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-13. As for Crosby, they dropped their record down to 2-9 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Derby will host Wilby at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.77 runs per game on average), something the Red Raiders will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Crosby, they will head out to square off against Waterbury Career Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs are facing the Spartans at the right time seeing as the Spartans are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
