Sierra Murray spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Rogers' win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Payton Walling, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Sumner had to kick off their season on the road last Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over Puyallup. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won four in a row.
Josslyn Sorensen was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Riley Meyers was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Naya Alastra was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Sumner kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Puyallup only managed four hits.
Rogers' victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Sumner, their record now sits at 1-0.
Rogers came out on top in a nail-biter against Sumner in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. Does Rogers have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sumner turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
