Cade Van De Weg was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Adams Central is 9-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-7 otherwise. Van De Weg was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Carson Ross was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jacob Miller, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs.
Adams Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Saturday Bluffton sidestepped Fort Wayne Bishop Luers for a 4-3 victory.
Griffin Morgan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on one hit and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Trevor Smith, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Abram Gehrett was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double.
Adams Central's win bumped their record up to 15-9. As for Bluffton, their victory bumped their record up to 16-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Adams Central has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Bluffton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Adams Central suffered a grim 19-0 defeat to Bluffton in their previous matchup back in May. Can the Flying Jets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
