The New Palestine Dragons will venture away from home to face off against the Plainfield Quakers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are still undefeated (New Palestine has three wins , while Plainfield has five dating back to last season).
On Thursday, New Palestine got the win against Avon by a conclusive 11-1. That's two games straight that the Dragons have won by exactly ten runs.
Sadey Hughbanks spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season.

04/23/24 vs New Castle | 3 |

On the hitting side, Katie Hirschy was incredible, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Saydie Miller, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
New Palestine was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .421 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Plainfield was not the first on the board last Wednesday, but they got there more often. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Franklin Community, sneaking past 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Quakers have posted against the Grizzly Cubs since April 6, 2021.
Kami Arnett made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Arnett was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kenzi Arnett, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Cali Clemments also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Plainfield's victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average this season. As for New Palestine, their record is now 3-0.
New Palestine's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's matchup. The Dragons have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Plainfield, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will New Palestine continue to outrun the ball?
New Palestine came up short against Plainfield in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 4-0. Can the Dragons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
