The Nyack Red Hawks are taking a road trip to take on the Clarkstown South Vikings at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Nyack has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Clarkstown South will arrive with three straight victories.
Nyack's last matchup with North Rockland could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Wednesday. The Red Hawks came up short against the Raiders, falling 10-2.
Brandon Salemo made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
While Clarkstown South didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Tappan Zee 7-1 on Wednesday.
Clarkstown South also got a great performance from Kyle Sperring as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Sperring a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Joseph Rosario was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. Kenny Johnston also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Clarkstown South always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Nyack's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Clarkstown South, their record now sits at 5-2.
Clarkstown South's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Nyack hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. It's a different story for Clarkstown South, though, as they've only averaged .240. Will they be able to contain Nyack's hitters?
Nyack skirted past Clarkstown South 15-14 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Hawks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
