Hoosier Heritage recap October 22, 2013
New Palestine added to the longest winning streak in Hoosier Heritage this week by beating Mt. Vernon, 20-0. The victory was the ninth in a row for the team.
Yorktown took down Indianapolis Emmerich Manual 68-8 last week, the largest margin of any game. Riley Neal threw for 199 yards and 5 touchdowns and ran for 16 yards during the win.
The Tigers' offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Chandler Carroll chipped in 148 yards. Carson Moore helped Yorktown's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 39 yards.
Blake Luker provided a threat through the air and on the ground as New Palestine beat the Marauders. He completed 12 passes for 151 yards and 3 touchdowns and also ran for 86 yards. Luker's favorite target this week was Nolan Guedel, who caught 3 passes for 64 yards.
Carroll was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 12 carries, he ran for 148 yards as Yorktown defeated the Redskins. Jacob Stephenson also contributed to the rushing game with 39 yards on the ground.
Thanks to the talents of Neal and Carroll, Mike Wilhelm's team has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Neal is tops in the league in passing with 2,054 yards, while Carroll has rushed for 1,906 yards this season. Tops in the league in receiving yards is Kyle Ralph's team's Tyler Walden, with 874 yards on 59 catches.
Going into this week's game against Pendleton Heights, the Dragons' Luker needs 145 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season. So far this year, Luker has thrown for 1,855 yards with 23 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when New Palestine takes on the Arabians. The Dragons are currently in first, while Pendleton Heights is in sixth.
