The Buchtel Griffins couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They were the victim of a rough 53-33 defeat at the hands of Canton South on Wednesday. Buchtel lost against Canton South in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 61-26 score last time.
Among those leading the charge was Arayiah Hoover, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Summer Hastings-Peterson, who scored 15 points along with 6 rebounds.
Buchtel's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Canton South, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Buchtel will take on Roosevelt at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Canton South, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Northwest at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
