Adding to the longest winning streak in II Section II this week, Sahuaro beat Buena 45-12. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
Nogales lost to Cienega 57-13 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jason Luna ran for 18 yards and caught 6 passes for 110 yards in the loss.
Laramie Brown threw for 117 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Luna was the best receiver in the league this week as Nogales lost to the Bobcats. Luna racked up 6 receptions for 110 yards. Alan Ortega helped Nogales' passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 72 yards.
6-foot-2 quarterback Rafael Adames of the Colts is the league leader in passing yards this season with 2,238. He has also thrown 25 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Luna. The Nogales star has 47 catches for 915 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Sahuaro takes on second place Sunnyside. Sahuaro defeated Buena last week, while Sunnyside bested Desert View.
Vince Villanucci's team's Luna needs only 85 receiving yards against Ryan Scherling's team to crack 1,000 for the season. He has recorded 47 catches for 915 yards this year.
The Blue Devils' Daniel Bonn needs only 24 yards against Scott Mckee's team next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 155 carries Bonn has accumulated 976 yard this year.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Cougars take on Sunnyside. Sahuaro has allowed 134 points this season, while Glenn Posey's team has given up 219. The Cougars allowed 12 points last week as they topped the Colts.
Sahuaro made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 1,723 from 2,768. The improvement was the result of a 45-12 victory over Buena last week.
