The Graham-Kapowsin Eagles will head out to take on the Bonney Lake Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Graham-Kapowsin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
Graham-Kapowsin fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Rogers on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Rams by a score of 7-6. The Eagles' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Jessika Jennings spent all 8.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, Izzy Vargas was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bonney Lake). They blew past Curtis 26-2 on Monday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Panthers with their most commanding win of the season.
Aspyn Evanson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Kendell Thomas was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Maddi Peri, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Bonney Lake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .634. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Curtis only posted an OBP of .286.
Bonney Lake is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.6 runs over those games. As for Graham-Kapowsin, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Graham-Kapowsin hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.3 home runs per game. However, it's not like Bonney Lake struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
